So, this is my "Hello!" It's official. Hi.
And now I need to take a moment to say "Goodbye." Not to my old site, or any old friends. But to one of the sweetest summer delicacies that my family thoroughly enjoys.
Goodbye, sweetcorn on the cob.
At least until next year.
We ate you tonight and could tell you were at the end of your crop.
But we knew that before you left us this year we had one more person to introduce you to.
Sweetcorn, meet Ty.
Ty, this is sweet corn.
It started out as an interesting relationship. They weren't quite sure what to do with one another.
Ty tried approaching from the end first. It worked for a little while.
Trying to put the fork in the mix didn't work so well either.
Nor did the "lay it on the table and attack from above" approach.
After a quick study of the Master Corn Eater in the house (a.k.a. Daddy) he finally figured out the trick. And after about 15 minutes of uninterrupted work, the cob was virtually clean.
And I would be lying if I said that I'm sad to be saying "Goodbye" to sweetcorn on the cob. Because I definitely won't miss the mess that was waiting for me when Ty and the cob parted ways.
And I know I won't miss what will be waiting for me in tomorrow's diaper.
You probably didn't need to hear that.
But, sometimes the truth stinks.
Goodbye, sweetcorn. Let's not let next year get so messy, deal?
Welcome! Evan tries to eat his corn on the cob from the end everytime we have it...and I'm with you on not missing the mess that follows!
ReplyDeleteImpressive skills. Maybe he can help you gut a pumpkin next to make a jack-o-lantern. That could be an interesting mess.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for one more corn on the cob night here....Let's hope Sweet Corn Charlie does not disappoint!
ReplyDeleteps- Glad to have you here in the 'hood. :)
